Rhetoric in Ancient Greece began with Tisias and Corax. The story goes that Corax was the rhetorical teacher of Tisias. Corax told Tisias that he will have to pay for the lessons, if he was able to win his first case. If he lost, that would prove that Corax hadn't taught him well enough, then he would be acquitted of paying for the lessons.

When lessons were completed, Tisias decided to take legal actions against Corax not to pay for the lessons.
